Are you ready for a beautiful 3-day weekend? The weather looks like it is going to be perfect. Hopefully you and your family can get outside and enjoy it. We do not have school on Monday in honor of Veteran’s Day. Thank you to any of you who have served our country in the military. I am so thankful for all of our freedoms.
Stone Soup
In your child’s folder, there is a piece of paper with an item that they chose to bring for our Stone Soup celebration on November 21st. If your item is canned or paper products, you can send it in early. Otherwise, please send it with your child in the morning on November 21st. We will be making the soup in the morning, and then enjoying the soup and fruit salad in the afternoon. If you are unable to send in the item on the list, please let me know, so I can grab it. This is always a fun day, and the kids love making the soup with their items!
AR
AR is an optional program that the kids can use at school to take tests on books we have read together in class, that they have read in class, and that they have read at home. They have time every Tuesday in the computer lab to take tests. They can also take tests when we have silent reading and during Fun Friday. Several kids ask to take tests when they finish their work, too! As a class, we decided that everyone who had 15 AR points by the 100th day of school would be able to have a pizza party. Since this is completely optional, there is no consequence or impact on their report card if they do not get 15 points. Many kids do not care about taking tests. We already have over half of the class with 15 points or more.
Math
We have been learning various strategies to add and subtract 2-digit numbers. We have learned how to add and subtract on a number line and with base-ten blocks. Ask your child to show you how to do both of those with the following equations. If they do it, they can turn it into me on Tuesday. They do not have to do it! It would just give you an idea of how they are doing with the concepts.
58 + 25 =
63 – 26 =
I hope you have a wonderful 3-day weekend and catch up on some rest.
