October 18, 2019
Next week is conference week, and I look forward to meeting with you to discuss your child’s progress in 2nd grade. Just a reminder of our schedule for next week-
Monday – No School
Tuesday – Regular school Day – 2:20 dismissal
Wednesday – Minimum Day – 12:26 dismissal
Thursday – Minimum Day – 12:26 dismissal
Friday – Minimum Day – 12:26 dismissal
Socktober
Next Week we are celebrating SOCK-TOBER!!! What’s Sock-Tober?? Good question!! We will be collecting new pairs of socks to give to children and adults who are homeless. We watched the following Kid President Youtube video about Sock-Tober today. The class that brings in the most pairs of socks next week gets a donut party. Who doesn’t love donuts?!?!? We only have 24 students in our class, and we are competing against classes with 32 students! The class thinks we can win! So don’t be surprised if they want to beg everyone for new socks.

Homework next week
Homework for next week is a little different, because there is no spelling next week. Instead of spelling practice, your child has 2 worksheets to complete for the week, along with nightly reading. They were pretty excited about it. The daily math worksheet is something we do every morning in class. Your child should know how to do it! As hard as it is, please let them struggle and work through the challenge on their own before you try to help them. They know a lot more than they think they do! However, these problems are not easy.
Spelling dictation test
This week for spelling, we also checked to see who understood what verbs were. The grammar score that your child earned was based on whether they could identify a verb in each sentence. A couple of kids did not listen and only circled one verb from one sentence. We talked about the importance of listening carefully.
Library
We will hopefully have library next week, but with the short week, I will let you know when I find out for sure!
Book orders
October/November book orders went home today. They are due back on October 31st. Since it is getting close to Christmas, please let me know if you would like me to package up your child’s books so you can give them as Christmas gifts. I will also be sending home a November/December book order.
